Growing up in Lake Placid, N.Y., Haley Johnson was the oldest of three athletic siblings. While her brother and sister pursued mogul skiing,Johnson began her career as an alpine skier at the National Sports Academy in Lake Placid. She switched to cross-country at the suggestion of her high school science teacher/nordic coach. That same year she was introduced to biathlon through a U.S. Biathlon summer recruiting camp in her hometown. Johnson spent her senior year abroad in Sweden and returned to the U.S. and enrolled for two years at Bates College in Maine. She then decided to put school on hold while she pursued biathlon through the Maine Winter Sports Center, eventually being named to the U.S. Biathlon Team in 2007. When not on the road training or competing, Johnson resides at the Lake Placid Olympic Training Center. She enjoys giving back to the communities and organizations that have supported her athletic career. When in Lake Placid, Johnson visits a fourth grade class at a local elementary school to share her inspiring travel and sport experiences with students. While on the road, Johnson stays in touch with those students through her blog: comeskiwithme.blogspot.com An accomplished artist, Johnson started her own business - Snowfall Cards - in 2005 to help pay for her training expenses. She creates greeting cards with original designs inspired by the picturesque winter environment of Lake Placid.
