Jerry Kill was born August 24, 1961 in Cheney, Kansas and is the current head football coach at Northern Illinois University, taking the position for the 2008 season. His previous position was the head coach of Southern Illinois University, where Kill guided the Salukis to three-straight Gateway Conference championships and Division I-AA Playoff appearances.
On December 13, 2007, Northern Illinois University in DeKalb announced that Jerry Kill was hired as their new Head Coach. He will be replacing twelve-year coach Joe Novak, who retired after leading the Huskies to a successful program. Before his first season at NIU began, his team was ranked #6 in ESPN's Bottom 10. Despite the lack of confidence ESPN's taking heads had in Jerry Kill and NIU, they finished the regular season with a 6-6 record. The 6 wins secured bowl eligibility and an invitation to the 2008 Independence Bowl was accepted. NIU was defeated by Louisania Tech 10-17 in the bowl game despite out gaining the Bulldogs in rushing and passing yardage.
