Feinstein first gained national attention when his book, A Season on the Brink: A Year with Bob Knight and the Indiana Hoosiers, topped The New York Times bestseller list for 16 consecutive weeks, from January - August 1987. Feinstein had unusually close contact with Knight, one of the most prominent personalities in the world of sports, during the 1985-86 college basketball season. A Season on the Brink was the best selling sports book until it was surpassed by Feinstein's A Good Walk Spoiled, which spent six weeks as The New York Times bestseller and a total of 36 weeks on the list and was published in paperback in June 2005.
