Young pitching prospect for the New York Yankees, Phil Hughes was born June 24, 1986 in Mission Viejo, California, was the first-round pick of the New York Yankees in the 2004 Major League Baseball Draft. Hughes first committed to Santa Clara University, but was drafted by the New York Yankees in the 1st round (23rd overall) in June 2004.
