Born in Daytona Beach, Florida, Rickie Weeks was selected by the Milwaukee Brewers in the first round (second overall) in the 2003 Draft.
He spent the majority of his first professional season at Class A Beloit after making debut at Rookie Arizona. After signing with the club, made his professional debut at Arizona on August 10 going 2-4 with four runs batted in. He was promoted to Beloit where he hit .349 with a home run and 16 runs batted in over the course of 20 games . He collected a pair of four-game hitting streaks August 15 - 18 and August 29 - September 1. Then collected first three-hit game and hit his first professional home run on August 23 at Cedar Rapids going 3-5 with five runs batted in. Rickie batted .185 (5-27) with four runs scored and three batted in over the course of eight play-off games.
Attended Southern University, he earned the presitigious Golden Spikes Award in 2003 as the best amateur player in the United States being named 2003 Baseball America College Player of the Year. He earned the 2003 Dick Howser Trophy from the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association. Rickie was a two time All-American selection . He ranked first among college players as the best athlete, best five-tool talent and best pure hitter and second as the best power hitter and fastest baserunner in Baseball America's 2003 rankings of the top 100 prospects. He set an NCAA Division I mark with .473 career batting average. Was the Southwestern Athletic Conference's (SWAC) Most Outstanding Hitter in 2003.
In 2005, Rickie Weeks signed a sponsorship contract with sportswear company 3N2, which designed a custom shoe for him. Weeks' brother Jemile Weeks was drafted by the Brewers in 2005 out of high school, though Jemile chose to attend the University of Miami instead of signing with the Brewers, although they will keep a close on on him for the upcoming draft. Rickie and Prince Fielder are the future of the Brewers.
