Tim Cowlishaw was born March 31, 1955 and is a national sportswriter for The Dallas Morning News, a regular panelist on the ESPN sports talk show Around the Horn, and formerly the lead reporter for the ESPN2 racing show NASCAR Now.

It is said that Paul was watching this same episode while getting ready for the NBA draft later that night. Paul is known for channeling that experience as motivation every time he plays the local Dallas Mavericks, one of the teams that Cowlishaw covers.
