Houston Astros star pitcher Dallas Keuchel was the keynote speaker at this year’s Oral Roberts University Baseball Diamond Dinner that happened on January 15th at the Glenpool Conference Center in Glenpool, Oklahoma. The event kicked off at 6 p.m. in the evening with a silent auction and was immediately followed by the dinner portion once that was over. The AL Cy Young winner spoke to the audience about his trials and tribulations in baseball, and also told a couple inspiring stories about his career that really made the attendees attentive and feel connected to him. Even though not everyone there was an Astros fan, it is safe to say that Keuchel was very well received in the venue, especially since he is home grown from the area.
The Oklahoma native grew up in Tulsa and got his passion for baseball ignited during his high school years where he led his team to the state championship. He ended up attending the University of Arkansas where he played collegeball for the Razorbacks for three years. In the 2009 MLB Baseball Draft the Houston Astros selected Keuchel during the seventh round, but played with the Astros-affiliated team, the Tri-City ValleyCats, until his MLB debut in 2012. The two-time Gold Glove Award winner has been a hit in Houston ever since and continues to bring a lot of excitement and value to the team each season.
Keuchel spoke at this year’s ORU’s Baseball Diamond Dinner earlier this month, and given that the sport is now his life and passion it was a fantastic talk that the audience will remember for years to come.
