American decathlete and two-time Olympic champion Ashton Eaton has added to the United States’ medal count this month by winning yet another gold medal in the decathlon event. It was a difficult task, but Eaton got it done by pushing his stamina to the max and was able to make Olympic history by being only one of two people to ever be a two-time winner of this extremely challenging event. It’s a grand achievement to just win a decathlon once, but doing so twice is essentially unheard of.
The Portland, Oregon native comes from a line of athletes in his family, as his grandfather, Jim Eaton, was a football player that Michigan State University and his father also played the spot. He went on to attend the University of Oregon where he greatly improved his running, jumping, hurdle, and pole vault skills under coach Dan Steele. At the 2012 London Olympic games, Eaton won his first gold medal in the decathlon event and he repeated this win at this year’s 2016 Rio Olympic games, and has won several other gold medals from various decathlon and heptathlon events over the years.
The 2015 Beijing World Championships winner won another gold medal on behalf of the United States in mid-August, which is a great way to end off at this year’s Olympic summer games.
