Matt Barnes and Blake GriffinLos Angeles Clippers forward Matt Barnes has teamed up with his childhood friend, EA Sports’ Roy Stigall to put together the most unique children’s basketball camp in the nation. The camp, now in it’s seventh season, drew 170 kids ages 5-14 this year, and it’s main draw, other than the NBA players that serve as guest instructors, is the EA Sports Game Room.

The EA Sports Game Room is what separates Barnes’ camp from any other camp in the country. Not only does it allow the kids a chance to test out and play the newest sports video games, but it also brings the outside basketball world together with the virtual world. By playing the games on the big screen, the kids learn plays, moves, basketball concepts and anticipation, and are given the chance to play the game while resting their bodies during the two-week long camp.

“A lot of the camp involves teaching skills and fundamentals, but mostly we want the kids to have fun, and part of that is in this place right here,” said Barnes, referring to the EA Sports Game Room that is less a room and more of an actual movie theater retrofit with gaming systems and stadium seating.

In addition to playing video games and teaching the fundamentals of the game to the campers, Barnes and the other NBA stars in attendance, like Baron Davis, Ray Young, Blake Griffin, and Gilbert Arenas also sign autographs for the youngsters and enjoy just hanging out and getting to know the kids.

Matt Barnes debuted with the Clippers in 2004 and rejoined them in 2012 after playing for the Kings, Knicks, 76ers, Warriors, Suns, Magic, and Lakers from 2004-2012. In his 12 NBA seasons he has averaged 7.9 points per game, including a career high 10.3 points per game in 2012-13 in his first year back in a Clippers uniform. In 2014 he was a key contributor in the Clippers run into the second round of the NBA playoffs.
