Legendary athlete Bo Jackson made his first visit ever to Spa City to spend time with the people at the Boys & Girls Club of Hot Springs’ Great Futures Gala Friday night at Hot Springs Convention Center’s Horner Hall. While he was there he spoke to the participants about how important it is to never lose sight of their goals and dreams, and above everything to be a good example. He discussed how difficult life can be, which is why it’s also a good idea to remember who you are influencing. Jackson was so moved by the great efforts of the club that he made a donation himself before departing.
The Bessemer, Alabama native was both a baseball and football star in his youth, and he was even selected in the 1982 MLB Draft by the New York Yankees to play baseball. However he turned down the opportunity to attend Auburn University, because he had promised his mother that he would become the first in the family to get his college education. In the 1986 NFL Draft, Jackson was chosen as the first overall pick by the Los Angeles Raiders, with whom he stayed with until 1990. He also played professional baseball with the Kansas City Royals concurrently during the time of his football career.
Jackson showed up at the Boys & Girls Club in Spa City recently to share some of his wisdom on life and make a contribution of his own.
