Retired NBA legend Dikembe Mutombo is just one of the famed athletes who will be leading the 10th edition of Basketball Without Borders Africa in Johannesburg from August 30 to September 2.

Mutombo was the oldest player in the NBA when he retired in 2009 at the age of 43. Over his 18-year NBA career he was named the NBA Defensive Player of the Year four times in addition to a long list of other accomplishments.

Players from 26 countries across the African continent will descend on Johannesburg for the four-day basketball camp. The players, including four from South Africa and one from the newly formed Republic of South Sudan, were selected by FIBA, the NBA and participating federations based on their basketball skills, leadership abilities and dedication to the sport.

There will also be a three-day girls’ camp for 25 elite female South African players, running concurrently, with expert instruction by WNBA legend Chamique Holdsclaw.

Campers at both events will work on improving their basketball skills through drills, daily scrimmages, and competitions with top instruction from these amazing NBA and WNBA players and coaches. In addition to basketball skills, players will learn daily life skills lessons as well as to hear about the importance of education, leadership, and HIV/AIDS awareness and prevention.

These impressive athletes are no doubt making a major difference in the lives of many who will attend.
