Shane Victorino SpeakerBoston Red Sox outfielder Shane Victorino came together with local business owners and professionals in the Las Vegas area last week to give them insight into how he has been successful in the business world. During a speech at a Faith Lutheran Middle School and High School breakfast Victorino spoke to Business Advisory Council members about how success in business comes with some struggles.

“Business is not always fun,” Victorino told the private school’s Business Advisory Council on February 4. Victorino said that the Red Sox team he was a part of in 2013 that captured the World Series title was not the most talented team in the big leagues, but that they played well as a team and that was what ultimately led them to being successful.

He went on to say that he sees his career as a “business” where he has to create a brand like any other company. Known by fans as “The Flyin’ Hawaiian” and “The Pineapple Express” due to his island heritage and great speed, Victorino is known as one of the good guys in the game of baseball. In addition to his success on the field, which includes four Gold Glove Awards and two All-Star appearances, Victorino has also earned the Tug McGraw “Good Guy Award” from the Philadelphia chapter of the Baseball Writers Association of America in 2010 and the Lou Gehrig Memorial Award in 2008 which recognizes the major league player that best exemplifies character and integrity.
