Dak Prescott SpeakerDallas Cowboys Quarterback Dak Prescott emerged as a immediate super star in the NFL on the field and has been making some great off the field contributions as well. Dak will serve at the guest speaker for the 2017 BridgeBuilders Mike Fechner Memorial Banquet on Thursday, April 27th at the Hyatt Regency Hotel in Dallas, TX. It’s only fitting that Dak is doing amazing things on April 27th (the first day of the 2017 NFL Draft) only a year from when he was selected in the 4th round by America’s Team.

BridgeBuilders is an urban missionary organization that breaks the cycle of poverty by confronting the spiritual needs of the “poor” and resolving the material realities that prevent them from flourishing. 2017 marks the fifth year for our annual banquet, in honor of our late founder Mike Fechner. They are excited to welcome  Prescott as this year’s Featured Guest. Just like Dak, BridgeBuilders serves the community of Dallas thru Urban Missionaries, who are true “indigenous” leaders, ministering to the communities where they live. Through life-on-life relationship building and discipleship, lives are being transformed, broken relationships are being restored, and communities are moving out of poverty, one person at a time.

Brad Allen Speaking FeeThis last week the University of North Carolina at Pembroke held their annual Cash Bash Fundraiser in the English E. Jones Center. The fundraiser featured one of the NFL’s referees in Brad Allen, who also was returning to his alma mater. Allen talked about being brave and he related that to his journey to become an NFL referee and how his journey continues today.

The Lumberton, North Carolina native Brad Allen originally began his referee career at the high school level and then later the ACC level where he officiated the 2012 Rose Bowl. Allen made his NFL debut as an official in 2014 when originally he was to be an umpire but when long time official Mike Carey announced his retirement, Allen was given the referee position which had not been given to a rookie referee since 1962. Outside of refereeing for the NFL, Allen is also the CEO of a non-profit organization.

This last week NFL referee Brad Allen returned to his alma mater, the University of North Carolina at Pembroke, to deliver a speech at their annual Cash Bash Fundraiser. Allen spoke about bravery and related the message to his journey in life and his 31 years as a referee. The event had an amazing turnout with over 350 attendees and as of this year the fundraiser has raised over 150,000 dollars for the universities 17 varsity programs.

Howard Griffith Speaking FeeThis past week Chesterton High School hosted former NFL fullback and college great Howard Griffith who spoke not about football but more about diversity. Griffith relayed the message that students should embrace the opportunity to learn from people and more specifically people from different nationalities.

Howard Griffith is a native of Chicago, Illinois who stayed in his home state to play college football for the University of Illinois. While at Illinois, Griffith set the still standing NCAA record for touchdowns in a game with eight, which came against Southern Illinois University in 1990. After his illustrious career at Illinois, Griffith went on to get drafted by the Indianapolis Colts in the ninth round and began his career with the Los Angeles Rams. In 1997, Griffith joined the Denver Broncos and helped open up holes for Hall of Fame running back Terrell Davis during two runs to Super Bowl titles. After Griffith sustained a neck injury in 2001, Griffith retired after 11 seasons and has since joined the Big Ten Network as an analyst and has also commentated for NFL games on Fox as well.

This past week Howard Griffith spoke at Chesterton High School about diversity and how students should learn about different nationalities. The event had an amazing turn out and gave students the chance to hear from someone who has met and befriended multiple people coming from varying countries and cultures.

Jake Arrieta Speaking FeeThis last week Jake Arrieta pitched his second no hitter in only a year and, as it would turn out, it came just after he signed a new endorsement with Mizzen+Main. Mizzen+Main wasted no time on capitalizing on the historic feat and their recent popularity has never been higher.

The Farmington, Missouri native, Jake Arrieta, was originally chosen in the 31st round of the 2004 MLB Amateur Draft but instead chose to attend college at Weatherford Junior College and the next year transferred to Texas Christian University. Arrieta was then selected in the fifth round of the 2007 MLB Draft by the Baltimore Orioles and finished his first season in the minors with a 2.87 ERA and 120 strikeouts. After a few more seasons in the minors, Arrieta went on to play for the Orioles and played with them for four seasons posting a 20-25 record and an ERA of 5.46. In 2013 the Orioles traded Arrieta to the Chicago Cubs and, after one season of shuttling between triple A and the majors, Arrieta began the 2014 season with the MLB club. Arrieta had multiple games in 2013 and 2014 in which he took no hitters deep into the game and continued to post low ERA numbers while striking out a number of hitters. In 2015, Arrieta won 22 games and also threw his first no hitter against the Los Angeles Dodgers. The season turned out to be his breakout campaign that saw an amazingly low ERA of 1.77 and with his amazing season Arrieta saw it rewarded with a NL Cy Young Award. This last week Arrieta threw another no hitter and became only the second pitcher ever to go undefeated in between no hitters. Arrieta, the proclaimed workout freak, currently lives in Austin, Texas with his wife and two children.

This last week, Jake Arrieta pitched another no hitter and helped his most recent endorser Mizzen+Main. The company incorporated the historic pitching performance in a recent ad and it quickly became the most popular ad the company has ever put out. With Arrieta on their side, Mizzen+Main should see an uptick in business while getting more amazing pitching performances from their Chicago Cub Ace.

Brandon Jacobs Speaking FeeThis past Saturday, Brandon Jacobs assisted in running a football clinic in Graham, North Carolina. The football clinic was for boys in the third through eighth grades and was focused on fundamentals. Following the clinic, Jacobs also guest spoke at the Christian Adventurers’ Spring Banquet and Auction which was used to raise money for the organization.

Brandon Jacobs is a native of Houma, Louisiana who ran for over 3,000 yards and 38 touchdowns in his senior season of high school. After a college career that included playing for both the University of Auburn and Southern Illinois University, Jacobs was chosen in the fourth round of the 2005 NFL Draft by the New York Giants. In Jacobs rookie season he rushed for over 400 yards and nine touchdowns and followed that season up by capturing the starting running back position after Tiki Barber retired. In that 2007 season the Giants went on to win the Super Bowl behind Jacobs bruising running style and their great defensive line. After six more seasons that included another Super Bowl run with the Giants and a brief stint with the San Francisco 49ers, Jacobs decided to retire after resigning with the Giants for one more season. Since his retirement Jacobs has been present on ABC’s Shark Tank and currently resides in Wayne, New Jersey.

This past Saturday, Brandon Jacobs guest spoke at the Christian Adventurers’ Spring Banquet and Auction after assisting with the football clinic held before. The event gave kids the chance to learn fundamentals from a former NFL running back and as expected the turnout was great.

Earvin Magic Johnson Speaking CostThis upcoming August Success Connect 2016 will hold a conference and the conference will have Laker great and hall of famer Earvin “Magic” Johnson deliver the keynote address. Johnson will speak about his drive, passion, and entrepreneurial skills that lead him to an amazing career in basketball as well as in business.

Earvin “Magic” Johnson is a Lansing, Michigan native who not only learned the game from his parents but also the hard work ethic he has displayed for most if not all of his life. Johnson was first given the nickname magic when he was a 15 year old sophomore playing at Everett High School when he recorded a gaudy triple double. In his senior season, Johnson helped lead Everett to a state championship while averaging 28 points and 18 rebounds a game during the season. Following high school, Johnson decided to stay home to play for Michigan State rather than leave for UCLA or Indiana who both recruited Johnson heavily. During his freshman season Johnson averaged 17 points, 8 rebounds, and 7.5 assists a game, quite a stat line for a freshman. The following season Johnson lead the Spartans to the NCAA Championship game against Indiana State which marked the one of the first games Johnson and Larry “Legend” Bird played against each other.

After winning the championship against Bird and Indiana State, Johnson decided to leave East Lansing to enter the 1979 NBA Draft in which he was selected with the first overall pick by the Los Angeles Lakers. That same year Johnson and Kareem Abdul Jabbar helped lead the Lakers to an NBA Championship against the Philadelphia 76ers and Julius Erving along with taking home the NBA’s rookie of the year award and NBA Finals MVP award. The championship was the first for Johnson who would win four more during his 13 years in the NBA. Johnson would help the Lakers take home another championship in 1982 against the same 76ers and took home his second NBA Finals MVP as well. In 1984 Johnson once again met Larry Bird but this time in the NBA Finals but the outcome was different than the previous season when they lost the championship to the Boston Celtics. Johnson and Jabbar carried the Lakers to the win in the series and what was Johnson’s third NBA title. Two years later Johnson had what many believe is the best season of his career when he averaged 24 points, 12 assists, and 6 rebounds while taking home his first regular season MVP award and another championship which required some late game heroics against, once again, the Celtics. The following season the Lakers and Johnson repeated against the Detroit Pistons and longtime friend, Isaiah Thomas. After a long battle with HIV Johnson made a comeback to the basketball when he made the 1992 US Olympic team also called the Dream Team. The team steamrolled everyone on their way to a gold medal which made Johnson one of only four players ever to win a NCAA Championship, an NBA title, and a gold medal in the Olympics. Along with his many on court successes, Johnson has become a part owner in the Los Angeles Dodgers in 2012 and helped facilitate the purchase of the Los Angeles Sparks in 2014.

This upcoming August Earvin “Magic” Johnson will deliver the keynote address at the Success Connect 2016 conference. With Johnson in attendance the event should have an amazing turnout as Johnson was not only a very successful athlete but is still today a very successful businessman and person. The event should allow attendees to gain more business knowledge and the drive it takes to succeed to new levels.

After his retirement after finishing his 13 year career, with his final season being with the Miami Dolphins, Thomas holds the Bills all-time rushing record with nearly 12,000 yards and ranks 12th in the history of the NFL. Thomas is also a part of a small group of NFL running backs who were obvious duel threats, just as Thomas was, with over 400 receptions and 10,000 yards rushing. In February of 2007 Thomas was elected into the Pro Football Hall of Fame and today still lives in Buffalo, New York.

Earlier this month Thurman Thomas was the keynote speaker at the annual DSBN International Concussion Summit held in Niagara Falls. One of the featured guests and keynote speakers will be NFL Super Bowl champion Leonard Marshall. Marshall will moderate a thought leadership panel covering CTE, concussions, and CBD as well as give his keynote address on related topics.

The Franklin, Louisiana native Leonard Marshall was the oldest of seven children and played college football at Louisiana State University. After graduating with a degree in business management, Marshall was drafted in the 1983 NFL Draft at number 37 overall by the New York Giants. In 1990, Marshall would once again help the Giants win the Super Bowl as well as land one of the most devastating hits in NFL history by knocking Joe Montana out of his last game as a San Francisco 49er. After a few seasons with the New York Jets and Washington Redskins Marshall retired by signing a ceremonial contract with the Giants finishing his career fifth in Giants history in sacks and a total of 83.5 over his career and 12 in the postseason.
