Chicago Bulls Doug McDermott hosted a youth basketball clinic in Omaha, Nebraska on August 22nd. McDermott jumped at a chance to be a part of this event, as he participated in similar clinics as a kid and was excited to give back to the next generation. The clinic was attended by lots of different kids from all states who were all big fans of the Bulls and McDermott, so they got more out of the experience than they could have even expected. The two-time winner of the Lute Olson Award was mainly just excited to put a smile on the kids’ faces.
The North Dakota native is the son of basketball coach Greg McDermott, and after his father switched job locations is when Doug decided on playing for Creighton University. He was an active member of the team until the end of the school year in 2014 when he entered the year’s NBA Draft and was selected as the 11th overall pick by the Denver Nuggets. Just under a month later he was traded to the Chicago Bulls where he still plays today. The 2014 Big East Player of the Year was also selected to be on the United States National Team, so he will be representing his country in next year’s 2016 Olympics.
McDermott traveled to Nebraska this summer to teach youngster more about basketball and have a little fun this August, and there is no doubt that there will be some repeat attendees next year.
