Kerry Wood Andre Dawson AppearancesWe’ve seen Aaron Rodgers make the “Discount Double Check” famous. Now it takes on new meaning when Chicago Cubs pitcher Kerry Wood explains his own method for double checking. In their new commercial, Kerry and his State Farm agent get a real surprise out of Wrigley Field’s iconic ivy wall, finding Cubs Hall of Famer, Andre Dawson.

Kerry recently retired from baseball after 15 long injury plagued seasons. He was a two-time National League All-Star and pitched in the post-season five times in a career that spanned 15 years. Wood won the 1998 National League Rookie of the Year. Kerry recorded over 200 strikeouts in four out of his first five seasons, with a high of 266 in 2003 and is the co-holder the MLB record for strikeouts in a single game with 20 K’s.

Elected to the Baseball Hall of Fame in 2010, Andre has always been an under the radar type of guy, although he didn’t play like it. Upon Andre’s retirement, his NL totals of 409 home runs and 962 extra base hits both ranked tenth in league history; he also ranked seventh in NL history in games as an outfielder (2,303), and sixth in both outfield putouts (5,116).

Post playing days, Kerry and Andre both stay busy with corporate appearances, autograph signings and now TV commercials. Both Wood and Dawson gave Cubs fans many great memories over the years!
