Herman-Boone-SpeakerCoach Herman Boone who inspired Denzel Washington’s character in the movie, “Remember the Titans,” is the guest speaker at The Lorain County Urban League’s Annual Equal Opportunity Day Luncheon, April 24. The luncheon begins at noon at the Lorain County Community College Spitzer Conference Center.

Boone, now retired from football, is motivating others across the nation with his message of teamwork, respect, character and community involvement.

According to Coach Boone, “Remember the Titans” was less about football than it was about a group of young people who accepted the souls of others despite their skin color. In 1971, following the integration of three schools, he and fellow coach, Bill Yoast, helped their community put aside intolerance and join together to support their children. TC Williams High became one of the best teams in Virginia, compiling a 13-0 record and going on to win the state championship.

During EOD Luncheon, The Lorain County Urban League will honor the work and dedication of Boone and present him with a Lifetime Achievement Award.
