Craig Biggio, Randy Johnson, Pedro Martinez and John SmoltzThis year’s Baseball Hall of Fame annual awards that are taking place on July 25 will have an extra special touch to it, as the late Curt Flood of the Cincinnati Redlegs, St. Louis Cardinals, and Washington Senators will be honored in the ceremony. The 70th anniversary of the end of WWII will also be recognized and those athletes who served during that time in the military will be mentioned too. In total, there have been 36 Hall of Famers who gave their time to the branches during the war and many others have followed suit since then. This year the players Craig Biggio, Randy Johnson, John Smoltz and Pedro Martinez will be inducted into the Hall of Fame.

The two-time World Series champion and three-time All Star player was signed into the MLB in 1956 and after just a few appearances began to make a great impact on the team, sport, and his fans. After just two years in Cincinnati, Flood went to St. Louis where he played with that franchise for 11 years and then concluded with one more year with the Washington Senators. After retiring from baseball, Flood bought a bar in Palma, and then came back to Oakland to be a part of the 1978 broadcasting team for the Athletics. In addition to that he was the commissioner of the Senior Professional Baseball Association, which was an organization that didn’t last too long.

The Baseball Hall of Fame inductees this year will be Biggio, Johnson, Smoltz and Martinez, and that is occurring on July 26.
