Curtis Martin SpeakerCurtis Martin was one of the greatest running backs of all time, although flew under the radar most of his career.  Not only was he one of the best on the gridiron, but off as well. Players, coaches and non-football people all cite his professionalism, humility and humanitarianism.

Former New York Jets Pro Bowl center Kevin Mawae was Martin’s teammate during their Jets careers from 1998-2005, and had some great things to say about him about his induction.

“Curtis was the most underrated running back I ever played with,” Mawae said. “He relished that, playing in the anonymity. He never wanted attention, never asked for it and never got it.

Over his 14-year career, he was definitely the most consistent running back in the NFL start his career with 10 consecutive 1,000-yard seasons, with Barry Sanders being the only other player to accomplish their feat.

Curtis was introduced into the Pro Football Hall of Fame on Saturday night, the only “skill position” player in a inducted group of six which included Dermontti Dawson, Chris Doleman, Cortez Kennedy and Willie Roaf and Jack Butler.

Martin started 119 consecutive games with the Patriots and Jets, ending his career as the league’s fourth all-time rusher. Now Curtis can finally get his respect he deserves, as companies will be looking to hire him for speaking engagements, appearances and autograph signings.

He continues to be involved in various charity work including the Curtis Martin Job Foundation, established by Martin during his playing career, designed to provide “financial aid and hands-on support to single mothers, children’s charities, individuals with disabilities and low income housing providers. Congrats to #28!
