Former NBA player Dee Brown spoke at the 26th Annual Springfield Sports Hall of Fame induction ceremony on April 11 in Springfield, Illinois. The event kicked off at 5 p.m. with an invitation-only reception and that was followed up by a nice banquet meal that started at 7 p.m., and since there were no tickets for sale at the door it was a jam-packed house. Brown spoke to the audience about some of his fascinating basketball career which began in college and took him to the NBA, and eventually teams overseas like the one he most recently played on in Bulgaria, PBC Lukoil Academic. It was a fun time for everyone who got to attend, and other sports celebrities made appearances too.
The Maywood, Illinois native got his athletic career started during his teenage years while he played for his high school, Proviso East High School. He ended up going to college at the University of Illinois and continued to play basketball until he graduated, and when he entered the 2006 NBA Draft he was selected by the Utah Jazz in the second round as the 46th overall pick. He stayed with the Jazz until 2007 before taking a year off to play on Turkey’s Galatasaray Cafe Crown for a year, then headed back to the U.S. Over the course of his career, Brown also played for many other teams including the Washington Wizards, Phoenix Suns, Maccabi Tel Aviv, Turk Telekom and VEG Riga.
Brown spoke back on his home turf in Illinois last month for the 26th Annual Springfield Sports Hall of Fame ceremony, and it was an honor for this year’s nominees to have him there for the special day.
