Swimmer and Author Diana Nyad made a guest appearance at the bookstore Pages in Manhattan Beach, California on Jan. 7th. Nyad was signing and speaking on her memoir Find a Way. Find a Way goes over her record breaking swim from Cuba to Florida at the age of 64.
Diana Nyad was born in New York City, New York in 1949 and moved to Fort Lauderdale, Florida in 1952 where she started swimming seriously in the 7th grade. Nyad has written four books and given many speeches to various groups focused on motivation. Nyad has set many other records other than the Cuba to Florida swim she completed one and a half years ago. In Nyad’s over 50 years of swimming she has set the Bay of Naples 22 mile race record at 8 hours and 11 minutes, swam 28 miles around the Island of Manhattan in just under 8 hours, and she swam 102 miles from North Bimini Island, Bahamas to Juno Beach, Florida in 27 and a half hours.
Diana Nyad appeared at the bookstore Pages on Jan. 7th. The event was a great opportunity to meet and greet one of the toughest people to ever grace the water and gain a few thoughts on better motivation for yourself.
