To say it’s been a big couple weeks for Los Angeles Dodgers southpaw pitcher Clayton Kershaw would be an understatement. Having collected both the National League MVP and Cy Young Awards he’s now earned a spot amongst the greatest players in MLB history. After being a shoe in to win the Cy Young this year it was up in the air whether or not the baseball writers would vote a pitcher as MVP, but in the end they decided it was clear that he was the best player in the league this season.
Although he’s been a star in the league for many years, Kershaw is finally being recognized as the superstar that he truly is. On Friday, November 14, just one day after collecting his first MVP award, Subway, the largest food franchise in the United States, jumped at the opportunity to add him to their highly touted roster of brand ambassadors, and Kershaw was happy to join the team.
“The key for us is authenticity,” said Subway chief marketing director Tony Pace. “We found out that Clayton would stop by a Subway before going to the ballpark, and that mean a lot to us that he was a fan of the brand.”
This season Kershaw led the National League in Earned Run Average (ERA) for the fourth consecutive season, posting a career low 1.77 ERA and 197 ERA+. He also posted a career best 21-3 record, led the league with six complete games, threw two shutouts, a no-hitter on June 19, and led the league in WHIP, strikeouts per 9 innings.
