Clayton Kershaw Charity Event Los Angeles Dodgers’ pitcher Clayton Kershaw and his wife Ellen will be returning to Africa next month for the official opening of Hope’s Home, the orphanage in Lusaka, Zambia, that they have raised money to build and sustain.

The 2012 Roberto Clemente Award-winner started “Kershaw’s Challenge,” an organization that seeks to assist at-risk children and communities in need, and the Kershaws helped to build and sustain an orphanage in Lusaka, Zambia called, “Hope’s Home,” where many of the children there suffer from diseases and infections related to HIV and AIDS.

According to the organization, “Hope’s Home will provide the love of a family that many of these children have never known. It will be a place they can dream, hope, and prepare for a bright future. They will be raised with the opportunity to realize that they are God’s children, dearly loved and cared for. The safe environment will allow them to be children—children who need to run, play, be nurtured, loved, and well fed. This home will be a beacon of hope for a generation that will be the change their country needs. We have big dreams for the children who will fill Hope’s Home. A bright future begins with the simple yet profound impact of having a place to call home.”

The good news came on Thanksgiving when Arise Africa, the organization Kershaw has partnered with, learned that they were to have 7 kids in their full custody who would be moving into the orphanage in a matter of weeks.

Along with the Kershaws, Dodgers‘ teammate Shawn Tolleson and his wife Lynley will be there for the official opening next month.
