Often times when fans see a star athlete on the field they only see the final product. However, for most athletes there is an underlying story of how they made their climb to the top. For some, the climb is longer and tougher than others. Some had more obstacles to climb, and more rocks to dodge on their way to the most elite level of their respective sport. However, when fans are able to hear these stories they are able to connect with the athlete and relate to their journey, which can inspire and motivate them to achieve the same success in their own life.
This is the goal of Green Bay Packers legend Donald Driver when he speaks to the public. He uses his own story of overcoming poverty and homelessness to inspire others, and to get others to believe that they too can achieve success no matter what obstacles lie in their path.
Recently Driver delivered a powerful message to a crowd of over 1,400 at the 19th annual Reaching Out Benefit Luncheon at the Meydenbauer Center in Bellevue. As he spoke the crowd fell silent, hanging on each word as he opened up about the trials he experienced as a kid growing up in Houston’s 5th ward. By sharing his own experiences and opening up in a way that most people don’t, he allowed the crowd to get to know him and also reflect on their own lives. It was a truly moving and life changing experience.
Donald Driver is a talented man in more ways than one. After a successful career in Green Bay that spanned 14 years and included a Super Bowl title he ventured out to the world of entertainment. He began writing and became a New York Times Bestselling Author with his book Driven. He also joined the cast of “Dancing With the Stars” and brought home the title.
