Florida Gators head coach Jim McElwain will be one of the guest speakers at the 21st annual L’Arche Football Preview on May 27 at the Mitchell Center in Mobile, Alabama. Tickets to the event cost $50 per person or $400 for a table of eight, and all proceeds go to the L’Arche Mobile community which supports people with intellectual disabilities by providing them a family-like environment. The doors to the event will open at 6 p.m. and the speech by McElwain, who previously coached the University of Alabama, will be giving a very positive and influential talk to the crowd. Dinner will be included for everyone who has purchased a ticket.
The Montana native started out his football career when he played for Eastern Washington as the team’s starting quarterback, and once he graduated he was given a job as the assistant to the quarterbacks and receivers coach. From 1985-1994 he remained with that job there and took his team to the NCAA Division I playoffs two times and even won the 1992 Big Sky championship alongside Head Coach Dick Zornes. After that, from the years of 2000-present he has coached for seven different colleges including the University of Alabama, Michigan State, Louisville, and even a brief stint with the NFL’s Oakland Raiders.
A man with so much sports experience is bound to be a great speaker, as he will have more stories to tell than people will expect. He has dipped his toes into a little bit of everything and lived all over the country, so he is bound to inspire children and adults alike to work hard and shoot for their dreams. The annual L’Arche Football Preview Banquet is happening on May 27, and tickets are needed to get into the event for the dinner and to listen to the guest speakers.
