Pittsburgh Steelers great John Stallworth has been announced as the guest speaker for the inaugural “Building of Excellence” Scholarship Dinner hosted by the Drake State Community and Technical College on October 27. The function will be taking place at the Davidson Center for Space Exploration and is being sponsored by Davidson Technologies. All of the money that is being raised by the event will go directly towards scholarships for academically inclined and deserving students, which will give them a chance for an easier, better future. Stallworth will be a great speaker to kick off this dinner as it is the first of its kind, and his presence will generate a lot of interest and he is expected to give a very motivating speech.
The Alabama native got his football career started at Alabama A&M where he played the position as wide receiver while he earned his Bachelors of Science Business Administration degree. He entered the 1974 NFL Draft where he was selected in the 4th round by the Pittsburgh Steelers and stayed with the team for all fourteen seasons of his career. The four-time Super Bowl champion played in three pro bowl games and even made the Pittsburgh Steelers All-Time Team. Stallworth was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 2002.
The former Steeler will be making an appearance at the first ever Drake State “Building of Excellence” Scholarship Dinner that is happening later this month, and it is no doubt going to be a great way to kick off a new annual event.
