Football legend Archie Manning spoke at this year’s August University Alumni Weekend event and helped cap it all off at the end on April 30th. When he took the stage, Manning was greeted with several loud clappers and roaring cheers, right before he took to the microphone and spoke to hundreds of fans. He was the perfect choice to conclude the Alumni Weekend, as he is a name and face that everyone knows and had a great message to tell his audience.
The Mississippi native played football in college for the University of Mississippi in Oxford where he was the starting quarterback for three years straight. In 1971 Manning entered the NFL Draft and was the 2nd overall pick by the New Orleans Saints with whom he played with for 11 years. The 1969 SEC Player of the Year also played with the Houston Oilers and Minnesota Vikings for two years apiece afterwards. He is also the father of the Broncos’ and Giants’ quarterbacks, Peyton and Eli.
Overall, the NFL legend did a fantastic job wrapping up the events of Augusta University’s Alumni Weekend and there is no doubt that anyone who attended will remember his speech for years to come.
