Bobby Douglass AppearanceFormer Bears quarterback Bobby Douglass signed autographs for fans at Bridges’ Scoreboard Restaurant and Sports Bar during the Bears’ Monday NIght Football win over Green Bay on November 4. Douglass sat down to watch the game with fans, signed memorabilia, and posed for pictures. He also spoke about his career, his minor injuries, and how he was one of the first true scramble quarterbacks to find success in the NFL. In fact, he still believes in his abilities. When someone suggested he had “ONE of the strongest arm in the league” he correct them by saying that he had “THE strongest arm in the league.” When asked how far he could throw a football today he said, “I say in my prime I could throw it 90 yards. Today I would probably throw it about 75.”

Douglass played 11 seasons in the NFL for the Bears, Chargers, Saints, and Packers and finished his career with 6,493 passing yards and 36 touchdowns. In 1972 he set an NFL record for most yards rushing by a quarterback with 968. His record stood for 34 years. After retiring from the NFL in 1978 he briefly pursued a pitching career with the Chicago White Sox. He is considered one of the great athletes of his time.
