Jesse BarfieldFormer Toronto Blue Jays outfielder Jesse Barfield was joined by several of his former Blue Jays teammates in Charlottetown, Canada on Monday for the first day of the two day Honda Super Camp, put on by the Blue Jays Baseball Academy.

During the camp Barfield and his former teammates, Devon White, Brian MacRae and Tanyon Martin were also joined by instructors from Baseball Canada and provincial baseball associations to teach the youngsters the fundamentals of the game and position specific skills to help them advance and achieve their goals in baseball.

“You definitely have to give back,” said Devon White, current outfield coordinator for the Chicago White Sox. “If I had something like this when I was growing up, I’d have been all over it. We grew up without pros for teachers. We learned baseball from our brothers and fathers.”

Jesse Barfield played in the big leagues for 13 seasons and earned an All-Star selection in 1986 while playing for the Blue Jays. In 1986 he had a career year, leading all hitters with 40 home runs and posting a .289 batting average to go along with 108 RBI, 107 runs scored, and 35 doubles. Those numbers earned him both a Silver Slugger Award and Gold Glove Award, and set the stage for the remainder of his major league career.
