Eric Hipple SpeakerFormer NFL Detroit Lions quarterback Eric Hipple will speak to students at Barberton High School on Thursday, September 20, about life off the football field and his struggles with depression and the loss of his son who committed suicide at the age of 15.

Hipple will address the students in the afternoon and then will speak to the public at 6 p.m. in the school’s auditorium at 555 Barber Road in Barberton, Ohio.

The Hall of Famer is best known for his 1981 debut game on Monday Night Football against the Chicago Bears, when he threw four touchdown passes and ran for two, helping the Lions overwhelming defeat the Bears by a score of 48-17. He was named Most Valuable Player of that game known for the best Monday night game in NFL history.

Hipple spent all nine years of his NFL year career with the Lions, retiring in 1989. He now spends most of his on the road as a motivational speaker encouraging others to call their own plays to stay mentally fit when they get knocked down in life.
