Former Atlanta Falcons defensive star Tim Green met with students at Belle Valley School on Wednesday, January 21. During his visit to the school he spoke to the students and signed copies of his new book, Unstoppable.
During his speech he delivered an inspirational message about hard work to third through eighth graders during an assembly in the gymnasium. He also spoke about his passions for reading and playing football, and suggested that students read at least 20 minutes a day.
“My goal is to get kids reading,” said Green. “I’m not here to sell you books. I’m here to get you to think of reading in a different way.”
Green’s great love for football and reading meshed throughout his career to make him a better player and a better person.
“I like football, because I like to knock people down,” he said. “I found a sport where I was supposed to knock people down and smash them into the dirt. I love how books can take you to another time and place. You can make yourself smarter and a better human being by reading.”
Green played in the NFL with the Atlanta Falcons from 1986 to 1993. After his retirement he became a best-selling author, and has since published over 30 books in both the fiction and non-fiction genres. Green’s most recent book, New Kid, was published in 2014 and has been an overwhelming hit amongst school age children around the country.
