Former Florida State Seminole linebacker Marvin Jones spoke to a group of about 100 people at the university’s Sod Cemetery as a way to entertain his fans and make a public appearance. During the event which was called “SodTalk”, Jones touched on a variety of topics such as some of his favorite memories as a player including his most memorable hits on the field and some of the more emotional moments. The crowd welcomed back the former player with open arms and was able to provide a good time for everyone who went. It was even more special for the people who remembered cheering him on during his glory days on the team, and is sure to be one of the days that they remember for a long time to come.
The Miami native got his talent for football fine tuned during his high school years and ended up attending Florida State University between the years of 1990 and 1992. He entered the 1993 NFL Draft and was selected as the fourth overall pick by the New York Jets with whom he played 10 years for in his professional career. His NFL teammates nicknamed him “Shade Tree” and even in retirement people still refer to him as that, remember how he used to take down their opponents with stunning tackles. After his retirement in 2004, Jones started the Marvin Jones Charitable Foundation that supports young people by helping to guide them towards success and opportunities through sports and community involvement.
The two-time All-American award winner showed back at his old stomping grounds to reconnect with some of his long time fans and gain news ones as he discussed his football life both on and off the FSU field.
