Former Major League Baseball manager Dusty Baker has been named the featured speaker for Chico American Legion Baseball’s 18th annual Spring Fever dinner and fundraiser. The event, which serves as a fundraiser for the Chico Nuts, is set for February 27 at the Elks Lodge in Chico, California. Tickets for the event are $45 for adults and $30 for children 12 and under.
During his appearance Baker will be discussing his career as both a player and manager in the big leagues and will be sharing the lessons he’s learned with the youngsters and parents in attendance. In addition to his speech he will also be meeting with the fans, signing autographs, taking pictures, and chatting it up with fans in attendance. As a bonus, all guests at the early day luncheon will receive an autographed baseball.
Baker played in the big leagues for 19 seasons and earned two All-Star appearances to go along with a World Series title in 1981 with the Los Angeles Dodgers. Seven years after retiring as a player he took his talents to San Francisco as the Giants new manager. He managed in San Fran from 1993 to 2002 before heading to the Chicago Cubs for four seasons and then finishing up his career with the Cincinnati Reds from 2008 to 2013. As a manager he earned three National League Manager of the Year awards in 1993, 1997 and 2000.
