A Jets Training Camp would not be complete without some good media coverage and this year it has hit an all-time high. The off-season addition of Tim Tebow has ESPN and other Sports Networks glued on the progress of the Former Gator Star as well who will be the starting the Quarterback come the regular season. If the Jets Quarterback battle hadn’t gotten enough coverage, on Tuesday it peaked as former Jets quarterback, Chad Pennington, made an appearance to the Jets Training camp after coach Rex Ryan and offensive coordinator Tony Sparano invited him to come up to camp for the day. Chad Pennington played for the Jets from 2000 to 2007 and posted an impressive career with the team.

Pennington spent the day on the practice field working with Jets’ quarterbacks. Chad had met up with Mark Sanchez  in South Florida for tutoring sessions in February, before the organization’s bold trade for Tim Tebow. Pennington sat in on some meetings and got to work with Jet Players on the new Sparano offense.

His message, according to players, was to make the most out of every time they step on the practice field. Human nature is to do things just to get by, Pennington said, but he told them to resist that urge and not simply “put a day in” at work. After practice Pennington shared what his message was to the Jets Quarterbacks:

“I think the focus has been on any help that I can probably give to the quarterbacks,” Pennington said. “I’ve not only been in a similar circumstance that they are, I’ve been in the exact same. I’ve played for the New York Jets in the New York media market as a quarterback, and I’ve also been doubted in my play or congratulated in my play. I’ve experienced all those different emotions. … I know it’s unique for me, but for them hopefully I can share some of my experiences here.”

Pennington was the quarterback for the Dolphins in 2008, after he was traded by the Jets, when Sparano rolled out the “Wildcat” formation. Looking at the quarterback situation overall and the team’s direction, Pennington thinks the dynamic between Sanchez and Tebow can work.
