Former Mets Pitcher Ron Darling has been named the main speaker for this year’s The Greater Binghamton Sports Hall of Fame Ceremony that’s happening on April 24th at the DoubleTree Hotel in town. Tickets to get into the event are $65 and can be purchased through the AJQSports.com website.Darling is expected to speak about his life and career in sports, as well as discuss the importance on giving back to the community when possible.This year’s event will be extra special, as there will be 11 new members inducted into this hall of fame, and for the first time ever and entire team.
The Honolulu, Hawaii native partially grew up in Massachusetts where he attended St. John’s High School in Shrewsbury, MA. From there he attended Yale University and began his athletic career with the Bulldogs as a position player. Darling entered the 1981 MLB Draft where he was selected in the first found as the ninth overall player by the Texas Rangers, and just a short two years later he made his professional debut for the New York Mets. The 1986 World Series Champion also received the Cy Young Award by the time he retired from his 12 year playing career. Since retirement Darling has even published a book titled “Game 7, 1986: Failure and Triumph in the Biggest Game of My Life” which came out in April 2016.
Darling recently spoke at The Greater Binghamton Sports Hall of Fame ceremony where he got to share some key moments from his life and emphasize what made him successful. The event takes place at the end of this month, so be sure to get your tickets as soon as possible.
