Antawn JamisonFormer NBA player Antawn Jamison went back to his college stomping grounds in North Carolina to host a basketball clinic in mid-July. The “All-Star Basketball Camp” took place at The Dean Smith Center and invited children between the ages of 7 through 18 to sign up for the event, which cost a total of $250 per camper. About 130 boys and girls were able to work on their ball handling skills with athletes who have been to the pro courts, and it’s also a good time for camaraderie amongst the youngsters. Jamison also provided scholarships for 100 of the kids to attend, as the rest of the money that was put into it was dedicated just to cover the cost of hosting the camp.

The Shreveport, Louisiana native started playing basketball in high school and got to be good enough to play for his college, the University of North Carolina in Chapel Hill. During his junior year he was awarded the Naismith and Wooden Awards for his talent, which led him to skip his senior year and enter in the draft instead. At the 1998 NBA Draft Jamison was selected in the first round as the 4th overall pick by the Toronto Raptors, but was instantly exchanged and sent to play for the Golden State Warriors. He stayed with Golden State for five years before going to play for the Dallas Mavericks between 2003 and 2004. Over the course of his career, Jamison also was on the roster of the Washington Wizards, Cleveland Cavaliers, the Los Angeles Lakers and the Los Angeles Clippers before retiring in 2014.

Jamison was in North Carolina this summer to host a basketball camp for local youth, and he was happy to be able to give back to the community and interact with some of his youngest fans.
