On Thursday, October 2, Northwest Christian School in Sparta, New Jersey welcomed former All-Pro New York Giants running back Joe Morris as the keynote speaker at their annual fundraising event held at the Lake Mohawk Country Club.
During his address to the sold out crowd he talked about his career in football and also provided some life lessons from his childhood and adult life. One of the most important messages he shared with the audience involved a particularly hard time in his life in which he strayed from the path he was on and became someone he wasn’t proud of.
“Everyone makes mistakes, but if you ask for forgiveness, put your faith in the Lord and believe, you will always prosper,” he said.
Morris played for the Giants from 1982 to 1988 and was a member of the Giants’ 1986 Super Bowl championship team. His best year statistically came in 1985 when he rushed for 1,336 yards and a career high 21 touchdowns. During the Giant’s Super Bowl year he rushed for a career high 1,516 yards and added 14 touchdowns. As a fixture for the Giants during the 1980’s, “Joe Dart” is one of the most loved and respected Giants of all-time.
Since his retirement from the National Football League he has focused on spreading God’s word and guiding the youth of this generation to personal salvation through being kind and generous to others and also accepting one’s mistakes and learning from them to become a better person and thus creating a better and more loving community.
