Former NFL player Jon Jansen spoke at the 71st Annual Petoskey High School Varsity Awards Banquet earlier this year on May 23 in Petoskey, Michigan. Tickets to get into this special event were only $3 for athletes and $5 for everyone else, and along with the pizza, wings, and salad buffet, it was a great time for everyone who got to attend. The hosts of the awards ceremony were beyond thrilled to get a pro like Jansen on board to make the keynote speech, and he was a huge success with the audience and made it a very memorable evening.
The Clawson, Michigan native was a known football star in his high school years, which made it an easy decision for him to stay in his home state by attending the University of Michigan after graduation. He played for the Wolverines for his entire college career, and helped his team defeat Arkansas 45-31 in the Citrus Bowl during his senior year. Jansen entered the 1999 NFL Draft where he was selected in the second round by the Washington Redskins, with whom he stayed with for nine seasons before doing a brief stint with the Detroit Lions just prior to his retirement in 2009.
Jansen spoke at Petoskey High School last month in his home state of Michigan as the keynote speaker for the 71st annual Varsity Awards Banquet. The athletes, their families, and friends all thoroughly enjoyed hearing from a person who played on some of the best fields in the world, and he surely inspired them to be even better during the next chapters of their lives.
