Former Seattle Seahawks player Shaun Alexander has been announced as the keynote speaker for this year’s Home Educator’s Association of Virginia- Virginia Homeschool Convention that’s happening on June 9-11 at the Greater Richmond Convention Center. The HEAV director Lauren Bell made the statement that the organization is excited to have Alexander speak at the event and that he is a great example of a sports hero who has never compromised his beliefs. This convention is in its 33rd year and will offer support to families of homeschooled children by providing over 150 workshops with information from everything from teaching special needs kids to preparing a child for getting a college scholarship. In addition to that, there will be other booths with interactive fun and activities at the event.
The Florence, Kentucky native started playing team football during his high school years, which led him to have several offers for athletic scholarships for colleges. He ended up choosing to attend the University of Alabama where he spent four years and completed his degree before entering in the 2000 NFL Draft. Alexander was selected in the first round of the draft by the Seattle Seahawks and stayed with the team for over seven years before doing just one more with the Washington Redskins prior to his retirement. The three-time Pro Bowl Player is also the all-time rushing yards, rushing touchdowns, and rushing attempts leader for the Seattle Seahawks.
Alexander will be speaking at this year’ 33rd annual Virginia Homeschool Convention that’s happening this summer at the Greater Richmond Convention Center. Being a homeschooling father himself, the former NFL player will definitely be able to provide some insight on the matter.
