derrick-brooksFormer Tampa Bay Buccaneers star Derrick Brooks was the guest speaker at the Southern League All-Star Luncheon that happened on June 20 in Pensacola, Florida. The event took place from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Skopelos as New World and tickets to get in were going for a price of $50 per person. Brooks was thrilled to be asked to be a part of this special event and to return to his hometown of Pensacola and says he is constantly looking for ways to be involved in his old community with opportunities to make a difference. It was a very fun event for everyone and the turnout for the audience was a decent number, as locals flocked to the luncheon to get a chance to see one of their own star athletes in person.

The Pensacola, Florida native got his football career started while he was a student at Washington High School in the late 80’s and early 90’s. After graduation he went on to attend Florida State University where he played on the Seminoles football team from 1992 to 1994 and earned three first-team All-Atlantic Coast Conference titles. He entered the 1995 NFL Draft where he was selected in the first round as the 28th overall pick by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Brooks stayed with the Bucs for the entire duration of his career of 13 years which he retired from in 2008. Currently, he serves as a co-owner and president of a local arena football team, the Tampa Bay Storm.

Brooks recently was the guest speaker for this year’s All-Star Luncheon that occurred in his hometown of Pensacola, Florida on June 20. The one and a half hour event drew in a lot of local fans.
