Former Colts running back Edgerrin James has been out of the NFL for a few years now, but still manages to host yearly free football camps in his hometown of Immokalee, Florida. James says that his main reason for doing this is because he feels that it is important to give kids the feeling that they can accomplish what they want to and get to the pros just as he has. The four-time Pro Bowl player always feels the need to go home to his roots, because that is where his family is and that is where he started out playing football before he made it big. Going home and partaking in these camps gives him a chance to be a fan at future professionals’ games and he finds it necessary to help those kids get there.
The 2008 NFL Champion is a home-grown Floridian and even went to college at the University of Miami where he played with the Hurricanes until he entered the 1999 NFL Draft. He was selected by the Indianapolis Colts as the 4th overall pick and played with the team for six years before going to the Arizona Cardinals for two more years, and then the Seattle Seahawks for his last year in his professional career. James ranks number three for rushing yards in the history of the University of Miami’s football team and was even inducted into their hall of fame in 2009. Today he still lives in the Miami area with his family and is loving every minute of it, but does take every opportunity he can to get back home to Immokalee.
James is back home again this summer to host his annual free football clinics and is completely thrilled to do so. It is one of the things that he feels that he can contribute to the community that gave him his passion and drive to success in the sport.
