During Myron Rolle’s college career at Florida State University he was a standout performer both on the field and in the classroom. His play on the field earned him a sixth round draft pick in 2006 after studying one year at Oxford University as a Rhodes scholar. After playing two seasons in the NFL he returned to the classroom as a medical student at FSU, and has also become a respected ambassador of many worthy causes.
As a tribute to his accomplishments and knowledge he was selected to be the keynote speaker at Monmouth University’s winter commencement ceremony on Friday, January 16, 2015. The ceremony is set to begin at 1:00 p.m. in the Multipurpose Activity Center, and will also feature Rolle receiving an honorary degree in public service from the University.
“We are delighted to welcome Myron Rolle as our commencement speaker,” said Paul Brown, President of Monmouth University. “He is an outstanding scholar-athlete, whose philanthropic achievements in the area of public health are inspirational, especially for a person his age.”
Even while pursuing a career in medicine he has somehow found the time to dedicate his life to community and public service. In addition to serving on the Board of Trustees at Hampden-Sydney College in Virginia he has also founded the Our Way to Health educational initiative and runs a week-long Wellness and Leadership Academy for children in foster care.
