Former NFL quarterback Jeff Kemp took part in the Annual Men’s Christian Gathering that happened on March 18 at the Porterville Nazarene Church. The entire event only lasted five hours between 8 a.m. and 1 p.m., and it typically draws in hundreds of men to the area to share this fantastic experience and day of worship. Tickets to get into the event cost between $20 and $35 dollars for adults, and just $5 for children, so it was a nice and fairly inexpensive way to spend a spring Saturday. The former NFLer got a chance to speak about some of the highlights of his career as well as some of the frustrating and challenging times. In addition to Kemp, there was also a national touring metal Christian band called Chaotic Resemblance that performed.
The Santa Ana, California native is the son of another former pro, Jack Kemp, and the brother of Jimmy Kemp, who is a retired athlete from the Canadian Football League. He attended Dartmouth University and went undrafted in the NFL in 1981, however, he managed to get on the roster of four different teams during his decade-long career. Kemp was associated with the Los Angeles Rams, Seattle Seahawks, San Francisco 49ers and Philadelphia Eagles between 1981 and 1991, and even served as the backup quarterback to sports icon Joe Montana, throwing 11 touchdowns for the Niners.
Kemp recently served as the keynote speaker for this year’s Annual Men’s Christian Gathering that happened towards the middle of last month at the Porterville Nazarene Church. The retired athlete got to share some words of wisdom and stories from his exciting life and career, enriching the lives of all the attendees.
