Sam Fuld Sports CampFormer Tampa Bay Rays outfielder Sam Fuld will be hosting his third annual Diabetes Sports Camp for kids at the University of South Florida on February 1-2. Fuld, who was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes at the age of 10, will be joined by 11 other instructors, all of whom have diabetes, from the college and professional levels. There will be instruction in baseball, softball, basketball, football, soccer, tennis, golf, volleyball, cheerleading and dance. The camp is open to kids 8-18 who have Type 1 Diabetes.

“We’re really excited to hold this camp for a third year,” Fuld said. “OUr goal from the outset has been to improve each year and we feel confident that the 2014 camp will be even better than the previous two. Adding volleyball and dance further broadens the array of options for the kids, and it gives us the chance to bring in even more coaches who serve as such great role models. The camp will again provide the campers with opportunities to share stories and learn from the experiences of other kids and adults with similar histories.”

Fuld played his collegiate baseball at Stanford University, where he earned All-American honors on the field and graduated with a degree in Economics with a 3.15 GPA. After being drafted by the Cubs in 2004 he made his major league debut in 2007 and was a key contributor to the team in 2009 and 2010. In 2011 he was traded to the Tampa Bay rays where he platooned as an outfielder through the 2013 season.
