Former Boston Red Sox pitcher Bill Lee gave a keynote speech at the SouthCoast Business Expo in Westport on October 14th, and he promised to have some great advice and exciting information for the attendees. There was a NFL theme this year with a contest for having the best decorated booth and costed $30 for Chamber members and $35 for non-members. Lee is familiar with speaking at these kinds of events and has done a few others in the past, so his reputation for keeping speeches fun and exciting is highly regarded. It was truly a great lighthearted event that kept the audience engaged and everyone who went got a lot out of his talk.
The California native comes from a family of ball players and got his career started when he attended the University of Southern California where he played baseball during all four years of his time in college. He entered the 1968 MLB Draft and was selected in the 22nd round by the Boston Red Sox and played with the team for nine years, and then tied up his professional career by playing another three years with the Montreal Expos. During his career he was given the nickname “Spaceman” by a teammate of his on the Red Sox for his obtuse personality and outlandish comments that were sometimes controversial. In addition to that, Lee is also an author and has written four books that all are in the theme of his life and baseball.
The 1973 All-Star player attended and spoke at this year’s SouthCoast Business Expo in Westport earlier this month and gave some great career and business advice to those who went.
