Former NFL offensive tackle Kyle Turley spent ten seasons in the league, retiring in 2007. The 37-year-old has transitioned into a new career as a country recording artist but continues his ties to the NFL by participating in several journalistic inquiries into the NFL’s treatment of concussions and overall health of its players in addition to speaking about the common sports’ injury.
Most recently, Turley spoke to a group of medical students at Tulane University’s Medical School in New Orleans on the dangers of concussions in NFL, remarking, “Unfortunately, it has affected it in a big way in a way. That is very difficult to deal with. But at the same time it has empowered me to try and resolve these issues on my own and help guys and get more guys to recognize that you’re not alone in this. This is something that affects every football player in the National Footbal League at some degree and level, and unless we address this issue, it is going to be continued to be thought of as not really that important,” adding, “It is the literal life and death issue that is out there on the football field every play.”
