Charlie Batch Speaking FeeFormer Pittsburgh Steeler Charlie Batch spoke at the United High School graduation ceremony that took place on Thursday June 11 in Armagh, Pennsylvania. The graduating class was a very small one with only 71 students, and when the school reached out to Batch he jumped at the opportunity to do so at no cost whatsoever. He opened the evening with a jovial attitude that got everyone cheerful and in the mood for a celebration, and also threw in a football joke or two. The former Steeler told the students that while everyone wants to achieve the same amount of greatness it is important that they just do their best to stay driven and on top of their goals. Batch is a well known name in the area, and it was truly an honor for the school and the audience to get to hear him speak at this event.

The two-time Super Bowl champion is from Pennsylvania himself, so returning home was probably a little bit nostalgic for the football great. After playing football for Eastern Michigan, the quarterback was selected in the second round of the 1998 NFL Draft by the Detroit Lions. After three seasons he then was relocated back home to play for the Steelers for an additional decade. After retiring from playing in 2012, Batch took on the position of a sports studio analyst for KDKA-TV where he still works today.

Batch’s speech at United High School in Armagh was a huge success, and it likely meant even more to the students and other attendees for him to be there since he did it out of the kindness of his heart. He shared a lot of personal stories that reflected on both good and bad times, but most importantly he left the new graduating class with a sense that he believed in them.
