Former center for the Minnesota Vikings Matt Birk will be attending the 2015 Western WI Youth Football Camp in Menomonie this summer from July 26-28 and the clinic will run from 6 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. each day. Registration is open to any student athlete between the grades of 5th and 8th to participate, and it will cost $40 for each player but will come with a few goodies like a t-shirt and a motivational speaker each night. The camp is run by 25 coaches across the state of Wisconsin and will be featured as a model camp for the NFL. Kids will get to learn a lot of fundamental skills, practice with each other, and be taught by some of the very best coaches out there with lots of experience.
Birk was born in Minnesota and he was noticed as a stand out athlete right from his high school years, and eventually went to college in Harvard. He was brought back home in the 1998 NFL Draft when he was selected by the Minnesota Vikings to be one of their Center players on the team. The 6-time pro bowl player is also a 6-time Minnesota Vikings Man of the Year Award winner and has established himself quite well in the sport and his home state. From 2009-2012 he played for the Baltimore Ravens which led him to also be a Super Bowl Champion before retiring. Since 2014 he has been named the NFL football director of development, which he continues to do today.
Birk will be helping out at this year’s 24th annual Western WI Youth Football Camp and will spend a lot of that time interacting with the kids who sign up. The young players will get a chance to interact with one of the most recent Super Bowl players, learn lots of new skills, and listen to many motivational speakers cheer them on as they continue playing sports.
