Former MLB second baseman for the New York Yankees Bobby Richardson has been announced as the guest speaker for the Pittsylvania County Sports Hall of Fame’s second induction ceremony on August 7 in Dry Fork, Virginia. Tickets to attend the ceremony can be purchased in advance for the cost $8 and $10 at the door. The Hall of Famer will be speaking amidst the 14 inductees for this year’s production, and guests can expect to hear a lot of great stories from one of baseball’s greatest players. Each year the nominees get their name put on a plaque that is proudly displayed in the Danville-Pittsylvania County Chamber of Commerce located in Blairs.
The eight-time All-Star player and three-time World Series Champion debuted for the New York Yankees in August of 1955 and played for a good 11 years. He was teammates with the legendary Mickey Mantle and eventually even officiated at his funeral. Richardson is known for having amazing contact skills and only struck out at bat less than 5% of the time that he was up to hit, and in 1962 alone he managed to hit 8 home runs that season. The 1960 MVP is also a five-time consecutive Golden Glove Award winner and has really solidified his name in the history of the sport.
Richardson will be attending this year’s second Pittsylvania County Sports Hall of Fame induction ceremony this August and it goes without saying that his presence will be highly anticipated.
