New York Giants Shane Vereen recently visited PSE&G Children’s Specialized Hospital in New Brunswick to interact with some of his youngest fans. He has been doing this annual visit for eight years now, and has remarked that there is nothing more special than getting to see some tough kids work through a difficult period in their lives. In fact, these drops in are organized by the Giants themselves as they are one of the hospital’s biggest contributors and often like to help the patients in any way that they can. Vereen made a comment that seeing kids in these situations is one of the best ways to learn what true strength is, because they are the ones fighting some of the toughest battles of all.
The Valencia, California native was a star athlete during his high school years and ended up being recruited by the University of California to come play on their football team. During his years at the university, Vereen made a great name for himself and assisted the Golden Bears in several fantastic wins over other teams. He ended up graduating with a degree in Media Studies, and entered into the 2011 NFL Draft where he was chosen as the 56th overall pick by the New England Patriots. He stayed in New England until 2014 and even got a Super Bowl win under his belt before signing on with the Giants in 2015.
Vereen visited the PSE&G Children’s Specialized Hospital in New Brunswick in mid-November to lift some spirits and hopefully make a difference in the kids lives.
