The Olympic soccer star and Women’s national team player Alex Morgan went to Newport, Kentucky to meet with fans and run a soccer clinic for girls ages 6-14 on Sunday February 22. Morgan’s goal was to merely connect with her fans and fellow citizens of the United States, and she had a much bigger turn out than expected. Starting at 6 a.m. on Sunday people started to line up outside the Pavilion Kroger Marketplace to get her autograph, which she wasn’t due to show up for until 1 p.m. In addition to that, the girls who attended her soccer clinic were very excited to practice with the gold medalist and showed her a lot of passion, she says.
The current forward for the Portland Thorns FC of the National Women’s Soccer League was the youngest player on her national team when she played in the 2011 FIFA Women’s World Cup at age 22. She also was on Team USA for the 2012 London Olympics and scored the game-winning goal against Team Canada in the final minute of the semi-finals round.
Morgan currently is only one of two women to score 20 goals and have 20 assists in the same year, the other player being Mia Hamm. At her soccer clinic she really enjoyed spending time with the kids and inspiring them to be better players. The soccer star was thrilled that she had an opportunity to meet and greet some of her biggest fans.
